Carbon tank, full name "activated carbon adsorption tank", is a tank filled with activated carbon. It is a device for collecting gasoline vapor and reusing it. The carbon canister is generally installed between the gasoline tank and the engine. The reason for adding a carbon canister to the fuel tank is because the fuel is easy to volatilize. The volatilization temperature of gasoline is very low, and it can volatilize at tens of degrees below zero. The higher the temperature, the stronger the volatilization performance. If the fuel tank is sealed, it will be burst by the volatilized gasoline vapor at normal temperature, so a vent hole must be designed. However, directly evaporating gasoline into the air outside the car is not only wasteful, but also affects the air quality and even poses a risk of fire. Therefore, a carbon canister is added to the fuel tank, and the filtered air is discharged from the carbon canister to achieve constant pressure inside and outside the fuel tank.
The working operation of the carbon tank is as follows: when the engine working solenoid valve is turned on, the engine sucks the fuel vapor in the fuel tank and the vapor adsorbed by active substances into the intake pipe;
When the engine is not working or the solenoid valve is not connected, the steam in the fuel tank enters the activated carbon tank and is absorbed by the active material;
After the engine is turned off, gasoline vapor and fresh air are mixed in the tank and stored in the activated carbon tank. When the engine is started, the solenoid valve of the fuel evaporation purification device installed between the activated carbon tank and the intake manifold is opened, and the activated carbon Gasoline vapors in the tank are drawn into the intake manifold for combustion. So far, the working cycle of the activated carbon canister is completed, until the engine is closed again and the cycle work is restarted.
In the application of activated carbon, there are many kinds of activated carbon that need to be replaced after the micropores are fully adsorbed. However, gasoline volatilizes quickly, and it is obviously unrealistic to replace the activated carbon every day, so the activated carbon in the carbon tank has high-efficiency adsorption and desorption. The pressure required for desorption can be achieved through the negative pressure of the breathing port. At the same time, gasoline itself is an easily volatile substance, and it still has this characteristic after being adsorbed by activated carbon. Therefore, it can be desorbed by negative pressure airflow when it is volatilized. The engine is then able to effectively "clean out the canister" so that the canister can be used over and over again.
