Classification of gas masks

According to the protection principle, it can be divided into filtering gas mask and isolated gas mask.

Filtered

It consists of a face mask and a canister (or filter element). The mask includes parts such as a mask body, an eye window, a talk device, a breathing valve, and a headband (or helmet). The poison canister is used to purify toxic gases, and contains a poisonous filter layer and an adsorbent. The two materials can also be mixed to make a filter plate and assembled into a filter element. A lighter (about 200 grams) canister or filter element can be directly connected to the mask, and a heavier canister canister is connected to the mask through an air duct.

Isolated

The mask itself provides oxygen, which can be divided into three types: gas storage type, oxygen storage type and chemical oxygen type. Isolation masks are mainly used in high concentrations of poisoned air (when the volume concentration is greater than 1%), or in special occasions such as oxygen-deficient high altitude, underwater or closed cabins.

In addition to the above two kinds of gas masks, many countries are also equipped with various special gas masks. It is made by replacing the sorbent in the canister or improving the local structure on the basis of the filtering gas mask. Modern gas masks can effectively defend against poisons, biological warfare agents, and radioactive dust that may appear on the battlefield. Some of its weight has been reduced to about 0.6 kilograms, it can be worn for more than 8 hours, and it can be more convenient to use optical, communication equipment and weapons after wearing a gas mask.
